Introduction: My life

I am Anu Roy. I was thinking about the ideas to write on this introduction blog. The first thing that came up to my mind is butterflies… Yes butterflies! I love to draw butterflies. I think they are such a beautiful creation of god. Speaking about drawing butterflies, I love to draw. Drawing is one of my hobbies. I also love to dance. I have heard somewhere before that dance is the fuel to soul. I have to agree with whoever came up with that saying. When I dance I feel happy and free. I also love to watch movies, read book (well sometimes) and SLEEP. I definitely love my sleep. If anyone wants to find me, the only place that they have to look is in the bed in my room. On average, I spend at least eight hours of my day sleeping.

So let’s get to more about my professional life. I am a pre-med with biology major at University of Oklahoma. Currently a senior who is taking seventeen hours and working twenty hours a week (I know, it is a little too above my capacity, but let’s see how this semester goes). I used to work as a pharmacy technician at CVS pharmacy. Currently I work at the OU library. So far, I love my job.

Enough about my professional life, let’s talk about my ultimate life goal. I want to become a doctor. I want to practice family medicine, built a nice living for my family and I. I also want to go to different countries and provide free checkups and assist people in need. I also want to practice medicine to help people who don’t have enough money to afford medical check-ups and care. I also want to be able to help my parents retire and have a great retired life because they worked so hard for my sister and I.

This is a picture taken during a family trip to Missouri. In this picture the  person standing in the front is my really good friend, then me, my favorite cousin and at the back is one of my favorite person in this entire world, my sister. Source: Personal Photo

  1. Hello Anu! Other than butterflies, what else do you like to draw? I enjoy sketching, but I am not very proficient yet. You should use some of your drawings as the images for your blog posts this semester. I also really like butterflies. My favorite is the Spicebush Swallowtail. I think it is awesome that you want to help provide healthcare to other countries. Have you been on any medical mission trips yet? Good luck with your busy schedule this semester.

  2. Anu, that is awesome that drawing is one of your hobbies. I wish I was more artistic, my brother is was an incredible artist and I always envied his artistic ability because I have none whatsoever! I would love to see some of the drawings you do, I sure they are great! You must be very busy taking so many hours and working 20 hours a week, that sounds exhausting!

  3. Oh, that is so cool that you work in the Library, Anu: what department do you work in? The people in the Library are my heroes right now because they are the ones who helped us to get all those Amar Chitra Katha comic books and other great graphic novels and ebooks and books to use in the second half of the semester. Do you know Stacy Zemke and Cody Taylor? They are the two main people in the Library who helped, but of course there are lots more people too, like the cataloging department, the people who run Reserves, and on and on. They were so helpful about all the extra work this made for them.

Anyway, I hope you will enjoy the class and even if you are busy, the reading and stories should be able to give you some creative breaks from the usual pre-med type of classes. And there are beautiful butterflies in India of course... maybe you could have butterflies in your stories somehow: I can imagine butterflies fluttering all over the epics, which makes sense since so much of the action is outdoors after all! :-)

  4. Hello, Anu!

You sound like a very goal-oriented and busy person! I think its great that you are so devoted to what you want to do in life! I too am taking lots of hours and working during my last semester, so I understand how overwhelming it can be. I'm sure you'll do just fine!

It's neat that you work in the Library! It sounds like a fun job!

Also, your love of butterflies is really nice. Maybe you should post one of your drawings on here for us to see. :)

  5. Hi Anu! I am so glad I got to know you better this year. I know your going to make a great doctor one day. I am so sad that you are graduating this year but I wish you the best of luck in medical school. You are beautiful inside and out. You are also one of the best dancers I have seen. I love watching you dance and maybe you can teach me a few moves! hahah

  6. That butterfly! It really made me laugh! It's so like you to start with a random thought! Amen to the sleeping woman. I too love to hibernate. I really could sleep the entire day. Maybe in your previous life you were a caterpillar that slept in its cocoon then transformed into a butterfly... Food for thought eh?

  7. Hi Anu! I think you're the person I harassed in the library because I saw you on your blog and I asked if you were in this class! Excuse me for that ha!
What a small world though, I also have a similar life goal as yours. I think it's amazing to give to others in less fortunate situations. I always wanted to go back to where I was born, in Mexico, and give medical attention to those who need it.
Keep going, girl. I know you can do it!

  8. Hey Anu! You sound very creative and artistic! I can imagine that you’d want to get your sleep since you're so busy with your pursuits. I used to be a page or shelver in a library and it was one of my favorite jobs. That’s great that you want to pursue medicine to help both strangers and your loved ones.

  9. Hey Anu's....I never knew you liked to draw. You butterflies are pretty cool. I like drawing but i usually only do it in class. Im also a pre med but I major in Biochemistry. 10. I have the same hours like you spend on sleeping. This is a great investment actually! 8 hours’ sleeping can make you a day full of energy. Coffee however just pushes your exhaustion off; it will come back to you after noon.

17 credit hours and 20 hours part time working are heavy loads. I accidently have a similar schedule; I work 20 hours food services (making pizzas mostly) and have 18 credit hours. In the past two weeks, my schedule is in an accuracy of 5 minutes. Sleep well and study hard.

  11. You seem like a very artistic person with the dancing and the art! That's so cool that you can pursue a career in medicine and be artistic as well, because stereotypically those two are mutually exclusive! I love butterflies, too and I always find myself watching them when they fly past me on campus. The other day one kept landing on my head and then flying around me and then landing on another part of my face. It was so cool!

You definitely seem very busy and I wish you luck this semester!

  12. Anu!
I worked 20-25 hours my Freshman and Sophomore year of college and it really helped me find a balance between working and finding time to study and do homework for class. Since you work at the library, do you work at the front desk or at IT? If you work at the front desk than it should be able for you to do your homework and study. I wonder if we have ran into each other while in the library. I am a tour guide and our route goes through the library.

  13. Hi Anu! It's nice to read about someone who is as busy as me! I work around 25 hours a week and am in 18 hours of classes, so I can definitely relate to how you feel. It's so cool that you like to draw butterflies. I couldn't draw to save my life, so I'm always really impressed by people who are good at it. I hope you're enjoying the class so far!

  14. Anu, it is so cool that you want to become a doctor and practice family medicine. You must work very hard for that. I think it's amazing you want to travel and provide free checkups for others in need, I too have a constant desire to help others. It would be such a great feeling to be able to help your parents retire and I think that is so admirable that that is one of your major goals!

  15. Hey Anu!
I think it’s great that you love to draw. I was I could creative and artistic. I wish you would have included some of your drawings. I bet they are beautiful. I admire you for being pre- med and juggling a job at the same. I would not be able to juggle school and a job. I tend to get stressed out pretty easily. I look forward to reading more of your posts!

  16. Hello, Anu. I hope your semester is going well so far. Butterflies are certainly fascinating creatures. Drawing is also fun. I cannot draw very well but I like to do watercolor from time to time. I think it's great that you wan't to become a doctor. It's a long road but a very fulfilling one. My uncle is a doctor and it is easy to see how much he enjoys his job where he gets to heal people and make them feel better. Good luck with all of your studies!

  17. Hey, Anu!

Thanks for sharing so many awesome details with us! :) I can completely relate with the sleep; however, it seems like I alternate between 10 hours and two hours a night! haha I can imagine that your schedule with work and strenuous classes keeps you very busy, so I admire your awesome time management skills as well!

I hope that you've been having a wonderful semester!

  18. Hey Anu! It does sound like you are quite busy. I know how you feel. I am taking 15 credit and have a full time job and two kids. I also think that it is great that you are planning on being a doctor. I originally wanted to be a doctor too but decided that I have been in school long enough so I think that it’s great that you have that dedication! Good luck with everything!

  19. Hey again Anu! I think you are my last person as far as introductions go. I think it's great that you love to dance, draw, and sleep! I like that you're trying so hard to become a doctor and I know how it feels to have to work and go to school. Last semester I took 15 hours with a full-time job and it was really hard to get through! So good luck with the school year and i hope you have even more luck attaining your dreams of being a doctor!
